Traditionally, malas, or garlands of prayer beads, come as a string of 108 beads (plus one for the "guru bead," around which the other 108 beads turn like the planets around the sun). I don't know if these are exclusive to Hinduism. Upon the partnership between the deity and his vahana is woven much iconography and mythology. All the numerous Hindu gods and goddesses are considered the manifestations of one. In Vasati such a square grid is called Manduka Mandala, the frog mandala. Because the goddess had the head of a frog, Egyptian women would wear frog amulets for protection during labor. Then why don't we try to conserve them?
